The Basics: Dentures

Posted .

With many individuals, there’s often no greater feeling in the world than having a complete set of teeth. If you have ever lost a tooth, you can understand how it can disrupt your entire smile. Not only can it be visually unappealing, but it can lead to several other oral health risks, including causing your jaw to sink in and weaken over time. Eventually, gum destabilization and tooth slippage can occur. Not only that, missing teeth can make your face look older. However, through the use of a tooth prosthetic, you can reverse any hindrances and ailments that may have arisen due to missing teeth. For example, consider the use of dentures.

Dentures come in several forms and can be crafted for as little as a tooth or for an entire row of teeth. With a denture in place, you can make sure that your smile gets the care it needs and you can distribute your smile’s bite force. This can ensure that not all the pressure from chewing and biting are focused on specific teeth. Furthermore, dentures in modern dentistry are designed with comfort in mind. Since they can be taken out, they must be cared for and cleaned on a daily basis. Typically, you should never leave them sitting out anywhere, or they could potentially dry out and crack. Also, keep them out of the reach of family pets and children. Before inserting the back of your mouth, make sure to rinse off debris or residue from a denture cleaning solution. Never use abrasive products on them either, such as bleach, teeth whiteners or hot water. Remember your dentures are fragile, so be sure to always handle them with care.
